Control cabinets

Klöpper-Therm designs electrical heating systems according to our customers' specifications. On request, Klöpper-Therm offers the appropriate control system, including control cabinet, for all heating systems. The control cabinet can be installed in the control centre or outdoors. If required, the systems can be planned for operation in potentially explosive atmospheres.

The design of our control cabinets is of course based on the latest technical advancements and current standards such as EN 61439.

Components:

The components used in the switchgear are from leading manufacturers like:

Control cabinets type KTSH for electric heaters

The output range for electric heaters is usually between 100 kW and 10,000 kW.

A signal of 4-20 mA, usually provided by the customer, is used to control the output either via several heating stages or continuously via a thyristor controller. To reduce the cost of power control, the control cabinet can be equipped with a combination of thyristor control and on/off control. In this case, one group is controlled with a small thyristor unit. The other groups are switched directly with contactors.

As the input signal increases, the thyristor unit regulates the power of the associated group from zero to maximum. Once the maximum power of the thyristor-controlled group is reached, the first on/off group is switched on. The thyristor unit starts again with minimum power and increases to maximum power. Then the second on/off group is switched on and so on.

On request, we can plan and install a PLC in the switchgear. All internal functions and additional external customer-specific applications can be programmed. Communication between the central processing unit (CPU) and external terminals takes place via PROFIBUS or PROFINET, for example.

An HMI (human machine interface) with a graphic touch display, alarm messages and data recording ensures convenient operation. Communication with the control system (DCS) takes place via suitable bus systems.

All control cabinets are subjected to function tests before delivery. A full current test can be carried out at the customer's request.

Control cabinets type KTST for trace heating

Our UNIPLEX controller is generally used for this purpose. This controller, which has proven itself a thousand times over, was developed by Klöpper-Therm especially for trace heating circuits. It consists of three main components:

  • Temperature controller
  • temperature limiter
  • Current controller

The UNIPLEX III is designed for 19-inch rack mounting. Its compact size is a major advantage. As UNIPLEX III RS, the heating control concept is also available in a compact top-hat rail housing.

Circuit-breakers, residual current circuit-breakers, contactors and solid-state relays are planned and implemented on busbar module systems in accordance with the safety specifications and requirements. This ensures that they can be replaced at any time.

Different heating circuits are usually switched via thermostats in locally positioned control boxes.

Our extensive range of accessories ensures a secure connection:
